Gift Aid

Gift Aid is a government scheme which lets us claim an extra 25p for every £1 you give.  This is because as a UK taxpayer you have already paid tax on the money you’re donating – whether that is directly in cash or indirectly through the purchase price of the items you donate.  We then claim back this tax directly from HMRC, to top up your donation. It does not cost anything to sign up to Gift Aid - and if you did, your membership subscription would count as a donation.

Once we receive your donation, we get the tax you originally paid back from HMRC to top up the donation. If you choose to opt in to Gift Aid, you will also be agreeing that we can claim Gift Aid on donations you make in the future and have made in the past 4 years.

What are the benefits of donating to The Countryside Alliance Foundation as a taxpayer?

  • For individuals: You can boost the value of your donation through Gift Aid, and if you are a higher or additional rate taxpayer, you can also benefit from personal tax relief.
  • For companies: Donations can reduce your taxable profits, offering a direct tax saving.

How do I claim tax relief on my charitable donations?

If you are an individual, you claim tax relief through your Self Assessment tax return. If you are a company, you deduct the donations when calculating your taxable profits.
